A leading international mining house is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor to establish and lead the maintenance function for a new mechanised alluvial gold mining operation in the Central African Republic (CAR).

Reporting to the Senior Alluvial Mining, Processing & Equipment Superintendent, this hands-on leadership role is responsible for ensuring maximum equipment availability, plant reliability and operational readiness across the entire mining fleet, processing plant and power generation systems.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced maintenance professional with a proven track record in heavy mining equipment, processing plants, wash plants, diesel power generation and remote African mining operations.

The Opportunity

The project includes:

• Mechanised alluvial open-pit mining

• 50 TPH gravity recovery processing plant

• Mobile mining fleet

• Wash plant and trommel operations

• Diesel generators

• Water pumping systems

• Gravity recovery equipment

• Remote workshop and camp facilities

Working in a remote environment, you will establish maintenance systems, implement preventative maintenance programmes, manage spare parts, minimise equipment downtime and develop local maintenance capability.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Leadership

• Lead all mechanical maintenance activities across the mining operation.

• Supervise workshop personnel and maintenance teams.

• Develop maintenance standards, procedures and best practices.

• Implement preventative and predictive maintenance programmes.

• Promote a strong safety and reliability culture.

Heavy Mobile Equipment Maintenance

Manage the maintenance of:

• Hydraulic Excavators

• Wheel Loaders

• Dump Trucks

• Bulldozers

• Water Trucks

• Light Vehicles

• Compressors

• Mobile Mining Equipment

Ensure reliability of:

• Diesel Engines

• Hydraulic Systems

• Final Drives

• Cooling Systems

• Transmission Systems

• Brake & Steering Systems

• Undercarriage Components

Processing Plant Maintenance

Oversee maintenance of:

• Trommels

• Rotary Scrubbers

• Vibrating Screens

• Conveyors

• Pumps

• Slurry Systems

• Sluice Systems

• Gravity Recovery Equipment

• Water Recycling Systems

Ensure regular inspections, lubrication, alignment, vibration monitoring and wear-part replacement.

Power Generation & Utilities

Maintain:

• Diesel Generators

• Fuel Systems

• Cooling Systems

• Alternators

• Electrical Control Panels

• Power Distribution Systems

Workshop & Asset Management

• Establish workshop systems and maintenance procedures.

• Manage fabrication and welding activities.

• Maintain tools, consumables and calibration systems.

• Drive workshop safety and housekeeping standards.

Spare Parts & Inventory Management

Develop and manage:

• Critical Spares Register

• Inventory Control Systems

• Warehouse Organisation

• Procurement Planning

• Vendor Coordination

• Long Lead-Time Planning

Breakdown & Reliability Management

• Diagnose mechanical failures.

• Lead breakdown response.

• Perform root cause failure analysis.

• Reduce equipment downtime.

• Improve equipment reliability.

• Support commissioning and plant upgrades.

Training & Leadership

• Mentor mechanics and supervisors.

• Develop maintenance competency programmes.

• Deliver toolbox talks and technical coaching.

• Build sustainable local maintenance capability.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Heavy Equipment Maintenance or related technical discipline.

• Extensive practical field experience will be considered.

Experience

• 10–15+ years' heavy equipment maintenance experience.

• Previous mining industry experience.

• Experience maintaining heavy earthmoving equipment.

• Experience maintaining mineral processing or wash plants.

• Experience establishing preventative maintenance systems.

• Experience managing multidisciplinary maintenance teams.

• Previous remote mining project experience.

• African mining experience highly advantageous.

• French language skills advantageous.
