Mechanical Engineer - Mining - Northern Cape

A leading mining house based in the Northern Cape is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to take accountability for engineering activities within an assigned plant/section. The successful candidate will provide strong technical and operational leadership, ensuring engineering compliance, plant optimisation, production performance, cost control and adherence to statutory and SHERQ requirements.

Key Performance Areas

• Assume legal responsibility for the assigned engineering section in accordance with statutory requirements.
• Develop and execute tactical engineering strategies aligned with operational objectives.
• Manage engineering budgets, cost control and financial performance.
• Drive engineering optimisation, continuous improvement and change initiatives.
• Lead and develop engineering teams and manage sectional/functional organisational structures.
• Manage contractors and engineering service providers.
• Manage engineering workshop facilities and resources.
• Support plant operations through effective engineering processes, systems and technical support.
• Provide engineering input into capital projects, plant expansions and improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, applicable legislation, Codes of Practice and SHERQ standards.
• Drive operational excellence, quality, work ethics and professional engineering standards.
• Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Apply root cause analysis, first-line maintenance, problem solving and trend analysis to improve plant reliability and performance.
• Apply commercial and financial principles when evaluating engineering decisions and opportunities.

Minimum Requirements

• National Diploma in Engineering – NQF Level 6
• Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) – Mines and Works
• B Degree in Engineering – NQF Level 7
• Postgraduate qualification such as MBA, MBL or MDP is advantageous
• Minimum 5 years' operational Engineering and Production experience within a mining and plant environment.
• Minimum 2 years' operational management experience with GCC responsibility in a plant environment.
• Total minimum experience: 8 years.
• Valid Code B Driver's Licence.
• All relevant mine licences.
• Medically fit and able to meet the required mining medical fitness standards.
