General Manager (4.1 Legal Appointment) – Mining - Northwest
Our client is a leading South African mining contractor specialising in mechanised and conventional mining, underground development, and infrastructure delivery.
They are seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager (4.1 Legal Appointee) to lead multiple operations and drive performance, safety, and strategic growth across their mining portfolio.
The Opportunity
This is a high-impact executive role offering the opportunity to lead complex mining operations within a performance-driven environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in achieving production targets while maintaining strict legal compliance, safety excellence, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Compliance & Safety Management
Act as the 4.1 Legal Appointee, ensuring full compliance with MHSA, environmental, and regulatory requirements
Drive a strong safety culture through audits, risk assessments, and proactive incident management
Ensure all licences, permits, and compliance requirements are maintained
Strategic Leadership & Planning
Develop and execute long-term mine strategies aligned to business objectives
Enhance operational performance and competitive positioning
Support growth, expansion, and optimisation initiatives
Operational Management
Oversee end-to-end mining operations including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and processing
Drive efficient resource utilisation to meet production and cost targets
Lead mine planning across short-, medium-, and long-term horizons
Contractor & Stakeholder Management
Manage and optimise contractor performance across all operational areas
Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, regulators, and stakeholders
Act as the primary liaison with government and regulatory bodies
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and develop multi-disciplinary teams across mining operations
Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement
Financial & Sustainability Management
Manage operational budgets and drive cost optimisation
Ensure sustainable mining practices, including environmental compliance and resource conservation
Minimum Requirements
4.1 Legal Appointment (MHSA mandatory)
Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or related field
Minimum 15 years’ mining experience, including underground and surface operations
At least 5 years in senior leadership role
Proven experience in contractor management and large-scale mining operations
Strong knowledge of mining legislation, safety standards, and regulatory frameworks
Experience managing large teams and complex, multi-site operations
