Drive Engineering Quality Excellence in a Leading Mining Operation

A large mining house in the Northern Cape is seeking an experienced Engineering Specialist Quality & Refurbishment to ensure engineering products, maintenance practices, refurbishment processes, and contractor services comply with mine quality management systems, engineering standards, and SHERQ requirements.

This specialist role is ideal for a qualified Artisan with extensive experience in plant and fleet maintenance, engineering quality assurance, refurbishment standards, contractor management, and continuous improvement within a mining or heavy industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Quality & Compliance

• Ensure engineering products, maintenance activities and services comply with mine quality management systems and engineering standards

• Monitor engineering quality performance across plant and fleet maintenance operations

• Conduct quality audits and inspections

• Investigate non-conformances and implement corrective actions

• Approve and evaluate new vendor quality systems

• Ensure compliance with engineering specifications and refurbishment standards

Continuous Improvement

• Identify quality improvement opportunities across engineering operations

• Drive engineering optimisation and maintenance best practices

• Improve equipment reliability and asset performance

• Conduct root cause analysis to eliminate recurring failures

Contractor & Vendor Management

• Manage contractor and OEM performance against quality standards

• Evaluate supplier quality systems and service delivery

• Ensure contractor compliance with engineering and safety requirements

Leadership

• Lead and mentor engineering teams

• Promote a culture of quality, accountability and continuous improvement

• Support effective maintenance planning and execution

SHERQ

• Ensure compliance with MHSA, SHERQ and company policies

• Maintain safe engineering work practices

• Promote continuous risk identification and mitigation

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Grade 12

• Trade Test (Engineering)

• Minimum N3 Engineering Qualification

• Quality Control Certificate (NQF Level 5)

• Supervisory Certificate (NQF Level 5) – Advantageous

• Planned Maintenance Certificate (NQF Level 5) – Advantageous

Experience

• Minimum 5 years' operational experience within mining or heavy industry maintenance

• Qualified Artisan experience in Plant and Fleet maintenance

• Minimum 3 years' supervisory, project leadership or team leadership experience

• Experience within mining maintenance environments

• Experience managing engineering quality systems

• Contractor and OEM management experience

Equipment Experience

Experience maintaining and supporting:

• Light Duty Vehicles (Toyota & Isuzu)

• Isuzu, MAN & Mercedes Trucks

• Mobile Welders

• Mobile Generators

• Fixed Generators

• Forklifts (Manitou)

• Rough Terrain Equipment

• Front-End Loaders (CAT & LHD)

• Mobile Cranes (Tadano & Grove)

• Skid Steer Loaders
